What is Family Therapy?

Family is an often over looked, but incredibly vital part of the therapy and healing process. While the majority of work can be done on an individual level, the family provides the primary support to an individual and can sometimes help or hurt the process. Family dynamics also play a substantial role in one’s mental health and at times need to be addressed before progress is allowed in individual therapy. During family therapy, a therapist will meet with either the entire family or parts of the family that are required and help build appropriate communication, navigate conflict, build support, and help repair unhealthy dynamics. Especially when children are involved, family therapy can also help build structure in the home and family life, to create the healthiest environment possible for all people involved.

Family Therapy can help with:

  • Attachment Issues
  • General Family Conflict
  • Behavioral Concerns
  • Anxiety
  • Social Skills Deficits
  • Communication Issues
  • Emotional Expression
  • Problem Solving
  • Anger or Authority Issues
  • Grief Therapy and Bereavement Therapy
  • Divorce Issues
  • Lack of/Inadequate Support

If you have any questions or concerns regarding family therapy, please don’t hesitate to call and speak with one of our therapists. We are happy to answer questions, help look into your insurance benefits or explain how counseling might be beneficial to you. If you have questions, and would like to speak to one of our mental health professionals, contact us today.
