What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is something that you have undoubtedly heard about in some capacity in recent years.  It sounds like a nice idea, but what is it?  Mindfulness is not a technique, it is a way of being.  It is a way of being that involves awareness of all that is happening in the present moment without judgment. It is a way of slowing down the fastness of life and experiencing each moment.  By living in a mindful way, life becomes fuller and richer.  We stop separating things into categories of “bad” and “good” or into things that we dread and things that we enjoy, and we simply appreciate all of it as being a part of life.

What is Mindfulness Based Therapy

We can integrate mindfulness work into psychotherapy in a few different ways.  One is by teaching mindfulness skills and techniques in session, or by informing you on how you might use mindfulness in your life outside of therapy.  Another is by using those skills in the psychotherapy session, maximizing its effectiveness by improving self-awareness and focus in the moment.  One of the many benefits of mindfulness is that it is tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding mindfulness therapy, please don’t hesitate to call and speak with one of our therapists. We are happy to answer questions, help look into your insurance benefits or explain how counseling might be beneficial to you. If you have questions, and would like to speak to one of our mental health professionals, contact us today.
