How Does ADHD Treatment Work?
This depends on the specific problems and the severity of the symptoms. Sometimes, medication can be a huge help. In other cases, children benefit from learning strategies to help them cope with the disorder, and parents can learn to adapt their behavior management strategies to work better with the challenges kids with ADHD face. In adolescents and adults, medication can also help with inattention, as can several therapy approaches. A combination of multiple treatment options is often the best approach to ADHD treatment and therapy should be tailored to your specific needs as an individual.
What is ADHD?
ADHD is a disorder usually first seen in childhood, though it can continue into adolescence and adulthood. The disorder is characterized by difficulty paying attention or staying on task, difficulty controlling behaviors, and an unusually high degree of activity. In ADHD, the part of the brain that helps us ignore unnecessary sensory information does not work as well as it is supposed to and does not “tune-out” the information you don’t need. This interferes with focus, attention, and energy levels. For people with ADHD, life is much like trying to have a quiet conversation at a rock concert.
Signs and Symptoms of ADHD:
- Difficulty with attention to details
- Difficulty maintaining attention
- Not listening to instructions
- Difficulty with organizing tasks and activities
- Frequently losing things
- Fidgeting or squirming
- Leaving one’s seat inappropriately
- Feelings of restlessness
- Excessive talking
- Acts as though “driven by a motor”

It’s easy to use, secure and available on any computer, tablet or phone. Psychotherapy, counseling and medication management are all accessible through our telehealth option, and every provider at The LodeStone Center is available through telehealth. Our registration process is entirely online, and many services are available within a few days.
