What is Depression Treatment?

Depression is a relatively common condition and is treatable. Treatment focuses on reducing the negative emotions, along with the negative thinking patterns that can lead to depression. The process will be different for each individual and is tailored to be the best fit for you and your child. It will focus on emotions, thinking patterns, coping skills, self-care, and even mindfulness exercises. In young children, this can often be done through expressive therapies such as play and art.

What Is Depression and What Causes It?

Most people have experienced occasional sadness or dips in their mood, but depression is different and impairs a person’s ability to engage in their normal lives. Depression can cause people to withdraw from friends and family, lose interest in the things they love to do, feel hopeless about the future, feel excessive guilt, and even contemplate suicide. In children, these symptoms are often seen across a number of environments including home and school. Occasionally, they will begin acting out or appear to be more angry than usual, due to an inability to express the depressive symptoms and emotions they are feeling.

Signs and Symptoms of Depression?

TeleHealth At Home Counseling and Psychotherapy

Telehealth, or “teletherapy” is a highly effective method of accessing care that is particularly useful for people in remote work positions, those with transportation issues or for those that live a significant distance from a provider they would like to see. One huge benefit of telehealth for children with depression is that they can engage in therapy in an environment that feels safe and comfortable to them. They can create a little corner where they feel like they have privacy and include items that bring them comfort, amplifying the successfulness of each session. Telehealth comprises approximately 60% of the care delivered by The LodeStone Center and we utilize one of the easiest to access and highest quality platforms for our telehealth calls (Zoom for Healthcare). It’s easy to use, secure and available on any computer, tablet or phone. Psychotherapy, counseling and medication management are all accessible through our telehealth option, and every provider at The LodeStone Center is available through telehealth. Our registration process is entirely online, and many services are available within a few days.
