Amber Marcussen is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with 10 years of experience working with adolescents, young adults, and their families. She has worked in community mental health providing intensive therapeutic support to children and families in crisis. Most recently she has worked in public education as a school counselor. With this experience, she brings an understanding of the education system and the struggles a child can experience within this system. Amber works with clients as young as 10 but will also be expanding her practice to adults. She has interest in working with individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, poor academic engagement, perfectionism, parenting, and issues relating to pregnancy, infertility, and postpartum concerns. Amber works out of the Woodstock office but also sees clients virtually. 

Therapeutic Focus & Approach:

Amber’s goal in therapy is to develop a safe, non-judgmental, caring and collaborative relationship with clients that fosters personal growth and self-exploration. Amber tailors her therapeutic approach based on her client’s individual needs. She believes deeply in the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She enjoys exploring patterns of thinking and/or perceptions that impact a client’s wellbeing. She believes adjusting one’s mindset can have powerful impacts for symptom relief. Amber utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy approaches in her practice.
