Dr. Bidwell specializes in the integration of mental health care in to primary care medicine and holds a certificate in Primary Care Behavioral Health from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. As a Prescribing Psychologist, he is one of very few Psychologists in the state of Illinois that provides both psychotherapy and medication management. He is the founder and director of The LodeStone Center, and serves on the board of The Illinois Association of Prescribing Psychologists.
Dr. Bidwell tends to begin from a very practical and problem-solving orientation in therapy to reduce the impact of the things that can be changed right away. Some symptoms can be addressed in a short period of time (like insomnia) and others require a long-term focus (such as mending troubling relationships). He feels he is able to be very directive in therapy when it will benefit the goals of his clients, and can be very non-directive and empathic when what is most needed is a supportive environment to explore one’s difficulties. Dr. Bidwell also works well in balancing pharmacologic approaches with behavioral interventions, and works with numerous therapists to help integrate medication management into the psychotherapy work with clients.
