Client-Centered Therapy · A person-centered approach

You are the expert on your own life. Therapy that follows your lead.

Client-centered therapy, also called person-centered therapy, is a warm, non-directive form of talk therapy. Rather than steering the session, your therapist walks alongside you, trusting that you are the expert on your own life and helping you find your own way forward.

What it helps with

What client-centered therapy can help with

Because it is gentle and led by you, this approach can support a wide range of concerns.

  • Anxiety and everyday worry
  • Depression and low mood
  • Grief and loss
  • Self-esteem and self-understanding
  • Life transitions and big decisions
  • A space to explore feelings without judgment

A space built on empathy, acceptance, and honesty

Your therapist creates a space that is comfortable, non-judgmental, and genuinely empathetic. Instead of diagnosing, assigning blame, or pushing an agenda, they listen closely and reflect back what they hear, so you can explore your feelings and reach your own insights at your own pace.

The approach rests on three qualities your therapist brings to every session: empathy, a real effort to understand your experience from the inside; unconditional positive regard, accepting your experiences without judgment or conditions; and genuineness, showing up as an honest, authentic person rather than a blank screen.

Your provider may use it on its own or blend it with other approaches that fit your needs.
