Individual Therapy · For ages 5 and up

Dedicated, one-on-one time focused entirely on you.

Individual therapy is dedicated, one-on-one time with a clinician focused entirely on you: your goals, your history, and what you want to change. Whether you are facing a specific challenge or simply feel stuck, it gives you a confidential, supportive space to understand what is happening and build a path forward.

3

Work at your pace

Good to know

Individual therapy: frequently asked questions

What is individual therapy?+

Individual therapy, sometimes called individual counseling or one-on-one therapy, consists of private, regular sessions between you and one clinician. Unlike couples or family work, the focus is entirely on your goals, your history, and what you want to change.

Is individual counseling different from individual therapy?+

Not in any way that matters to you. Clinicians use the words interchangeably. Counseling sometimes describes shorter, more focused work and therapy longer or deeper work, but the same clinician provides both, and you do not need to pick one before you call.

What can I bring to individual therapy?+

Anything. People come for anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, relationship trouble, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck. You do not need a diagnosis to start.

Do you offer individual therapy for children and teens?+

Yes, from age five. With younger children we often use play therapy and keep parents involved. Teenagers get a space of their own, and we are clear with families from the first session about how privacy works.

How often will I meet with my therapist?+

Most people begin weekly and space sessions out as things improve. Your clinician reviews progress with you openly, and the goal is for you to need us less over time.

Is individual therapy available by telehealth?+

Yes. We offer secure video sessions to anyone in Illinois, and in-person sessions at our Hinsdale and Woodstock offices. Many patients mix the two.
