Biography
Shannon is a National Board Certified, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. She earned her Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a concentration in Trauma and Crisis Intervention. She has extensive training in suicide prevention and is certified in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). Additionally, she is certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). Her professional background includes experience in hospital settings, higher levels of care, such as partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP), as well as outpatient individual therapy settings. She has experience working individually with adults and the aging population and leading group therapy. She primarily works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic, phobias, interpersonal and relationship challenges, and life transitions. She also provides support to individuals who have experienced trauma, complex-PTSD, adverse life experiences, and those navigating grief and loss.
Therapeutic Focus & Approach
Her approach to counseling is collaborative and client-centered. She believes each client is unique and she strives to tailor treatment to meet each individual’s needs while supporting them throughout their therapeutic journey. She utilizes an integrative approach drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to explore with each client how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact with and influence one another. She also specializes in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills, Prolonged Exposure (PE), Habit Reversal Training (HRT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
