What is Wellness?

The LodeStone Center provides a variety of wellness services from our mental health clinicians as well as our registered dietitian. What is Wellness?

The term “wellness” refers to dynamic process of physical, mental, and spiritual fulfillment with a commitment of integration into daily life. As the movement towards health and wellness counseling has grown, another definition for wellness has been clarified as: “a way of life oriented toward optimal health and well being, in which body, mind, and spirit are integrated by the individual to live life more fully within the human and natural community. Ideally, it is the optimum state of health and well­ being that each individual is capable of achieving.”

What is Wellness Counseling?

Sessions are always based on the needs of the client and expressed desire to change. Clients may be asked to identify which areas of wellness are most important to them and which they would like to change and improve. Wellness counseling emphasizes strengths as well as personal choices, and underscores the importance of daily decision making to achieve the goal of an increasingly healthy, balanced lifestyle. Areas for improvement in wellness may center around:

●Weight Restoration
●Obtaining healthy lab values (cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.)
●Stress management techniques
Dietitians, therapists, and counselors can work with individuals of all ages in order to help achieve wellness goals.

Any age can benefit from investing in their overall health and wellness. Whether it is for learning stress relieving and time management techniques from a counselor to gaining tips on balancing your diet through nutritional counseling with a dietitian, there are many ways to obtain optimal health. Each area of health has an effect on overall wellness, so identifying areas to improve will lead to better overall functioning.
